Launched by the Community Safety Partnership in April 2002 the Fife Safety Camera Partnership aims:-

  • to reduce the number and severity of casualties on the road.
  • to align its business to directly support the current Fife Road Safety Strategy.
  • through analysis of intelligence-led statistical data, identify where speed cameras of an appropriate type can be used most effectively to have a positive safety outcome.
  • incorporate the utilisation of safety cameras into the general sphere of community safety by addressing areas of community concern.
  • be transparent in operations and activities.
  • forge clear tangible links to accredited road safety activities.

In response to community concerns speed enforcement is being carried out by divisional and enforcement officers in the village of Gateside..  (updated 30June 2008)

Partnership Manager's Update: JULY 08

"As the school holidays approach we're appealing to drivers to show patience towards young people and take extra care by looking out for children when driving around the Kingdom.  Across the summer holiday months children and young people are out in the streets and drivers are urged to reduce their speed and be a little bit more patient when driving in residential and build-up areas - taking note that the speed restriction is the maximum.  Casualty reduction is our main aim and our message for the coming months is  - slow down, Keep Fife Safe!

"Additionally, there is a growing number of motorcycle users on Scotland's roads each year and bikes are becoming a more common sight as the better weather arrives - Think! Take longer to look for bikes"

NOTES to new drivers

-a new driver receiving 6 penalty points within the first 2yrs after passing the test will return to learner driver status requiring a re-sit of both the theory and practical tests.

-failure to identify the driver of a vehicle detected for an alleged speeding offence carries a penalty of up to £1000 fine and 6 penalty points.

Approx. 500 new drivers in Fife will receive a 'P' for pass pack on completion of their practical driving test.  Driving Standards Agency in Fife have agreed to distribute the packs which include 'P' plates and other items to support the new driver.  This initiative runs from 23 June 2008.
